Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American average was 16.1M. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
