2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a more defined direction.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our fans.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His management and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the recent years creating and managing some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming him soon. We are all excited to continue witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
Brinkman presently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description states. "Face the competition with new abilities, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to additional details as creation advances.
